Makongo Hills offers the ultimate WILD CAMPING destination; an unfenced and off grid camping experience.  Our Inkululeko Bush Camp is nestled in a Tamboti Grove, located in the 15,000 hectare, Mkuze Valley Wilderness. The area is a malaria-free, BIG 5 Private Game Reserve.

ABOUT THE BUSHCAMP:
  • The Inkululeko Bushcamp is situated just 5mins on entering the Makongo Hills main gate, on the left, as you make your way to the lodge. A 4×4 vehicle is required to reach the campsite
  • A reminder that Check-in is from 13h00 – 17h30 and Check-out time: 10h00 please
  • Once you’ve arrived at the site there is no driving around the reserve.
  • This campsite can accommodate up to 10 guests/5 vehicles
  • Upon arrival at the Inkululeko Bushcamp you will be met and welcomed by Mkuze Valley Wilderness staff. You will have an orientation of the facilities and receive a Safety & Emergency briefing
  • As we are unfenced, the animals are constantly in and around the campsite, creating the perfect camping experience

  • The spacious campsite is set under magnificent Tamboti trees on a level camping area
  • This wild campsite is off-grid with no plug points. Solar Lights will shine on the camping area at night, providing guests with visibility
  • Running water is available for washing, although you need to bring your own drinking water
  • There is a large fire pit and braai area. One large stack of complimentary bushveld firewood will be provided on arrival. Extra wood is available for purchase
  • Please note there is no collection of firewood from the surrounding area due to the impact this would have on the micro and macroecology of the area.
  • Hot water is supplied by a Jet Donkey Boiler
  • Self-driving is not permitted on the Mkuze Valley Wilderness Reserve, but guided game drives can be arranged on booking
  • Guests are required to be self-sufficient and self-catering, and will stay at the bushcamp at their own risk
  • A Manager will check on guests at the Inkululeko Bush Camp on a daily basis

CAMPSITE FEATURES & AMENITIES:
  • The spacious campsite is on a level camping area to set up Tents, Camping Trailers & Off-road Caravans
  • Our Ablution Block has 2 flushing toilets, 2 basins, and 2 open air showers with hot water. There is little to beat showering with the warmth from the African sun, or at night under the stars
  • The thatched Kitchen area has a basin for washing up and a work counter top. This is a safe, monkey-proofed area.
  • The thatched Dining area has a rustic dining table on a raised and protected platform. This area is also perfectly positioned to enjoy birding
  • A Fire Pit & Braai for sitting around while watching the stars and experiencing the amazing wilderness
  • Hot water supplied by a Jet Donkey Boiler

The Inkululeko Bush Camp is a WILD CAMPING EXPERIENCE.
Guests will be staying at the Bush Camp at their own risk

  • Solar lights to illuminate the campsite in the evenings
  • The Kitchen Area is monkey/baboon proofed
  • The Dining Area is secured with wire mesh under the raised area so no animals can settle there
  • Communication is via radio contact with the Lodge

  • Watch and listen out for wildlife visiting in this unfenced campsite from the safety of the raised platform
  • The firepit area is perfect for sitting back, watching the stars, and feeling the amazing wilderness after feasting at the braai 
  • Part of the charm of the bush is the joy of doing nothing at all. Read for pure pleasure, relax, bird and animal watch (they are all around you), or take a midday nap
  • Easy access in & out of the gate (traverse 2 game reserves with game encounters)
  • A great stop-over when travelling the ‘Durban to Mozambique or Sodwana’ route

Excluded:

  • Self-drives are not permitted on the reserve so book a guided game drive (R1,200- per drive)
  • As well as self-catering, bring your own drinking water
  • Extra Firewood is available for purchase
